William "Bill" Cassan Obituary

William (Bill) John Cassan passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Bill is lovingly remembered by his sister Lynda (Cassan) Merko, and his nephews Ryan and Craig, along with Craig’s wife Erin and their daughter Blake. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan (Coey) Cassan in 1995, his parents John Alexander (Alex) and Mae (Craig) Cassan in 1988, and his brother-in-law Alvin Merko in 1984.

Born in Brandon, Manitoba, Bill moved to Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), Ontario in 1957. In 1961, he proudly joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, dedicating 36 years of service before retiring in 1997. Following retirement, Bill embraced adventure and spent five years living in France before returning to Canada, settling first in Vancouver and later in Salmon Arm.

Bill will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering faith, and commitment to helping others. He supported numerous charitable organizations and was a devoted member of The Broadview Evangelical Free Church. His kindness, warmth, and quiet strength touched the lives of many.

Honoring Bill’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. His ashes will be interred in Thunder Bay alongside his cherished wife Joan and his parents, Alex and Mae.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Clare Cassan, Ted Brecknell, Suzie DaSilva, Paul Flahr and family, the Piccadilly Terrace team and residents, and the many others who offered their love and support during Bill’s final days.

Bill’s legacy of compassion and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
