It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Roger Szalanski, 66, of Enderby BC.
Roger was born in Selkirk Manitoba on June 10th, 1954 to Thelma and Joseph Szalanski. The family moved to Toronto when Roger was 6 and then to BC where Roger at an early age began to build and ride motorbikes or pretty much anything with a motor, starting his young career in a bike shop at the age of 14.
Roger eventually became a licensed mechanic and was married in August of 1978 in Salmon Arm BC to Kimberly Delanne. After mechanicing in many garages and a feed mill, he eventually opened up his own automotive and body shop in Grindrod BC. It was said by anyone that knew him that he could pretty much fix anything.
Roger also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and rock hound. He soon started to work in the mining community, prospecting for exploration companies travelling in and around BC. This he really loved and often shared stories of 'bear scares' and death defying rock climbs or was it rock falls?
He was also a volunteer for Search and Rescue for many, many years both in the Shuswap and up in the Williams Lake area.
Other favorite pastimes were metal detecting, camping, woodworking of late, and spending time with family and friends.
Roger is survived by his wife Kimberly of Enderby, his daughter Shannon and her husband Jeremy, son Nicholas and his wife Jillian, and his son Jeffrey.
His grandchildren Kaeli, Cordaliene, Jacob, and Josiah.
His brother Jim and his wife Alice, his sister Jane, and his favorite Aunt Florence and Uncle Mike and his many, many cousins.
Roger was a very kind and giving man with a great sense of humour and will be greatly missed!
