Timothy Laforet Obituary

Tim was born September 8, 1957, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and passed away on May 12, 2025, at Vancouver General Hospital in British Columbia after fighting bravely against leukemia.

In his very early years, Tim lived in England with Mom (Freda) and his biological dad (George), who was in the Air Force and worked at the base. Although there were challenges, he spoke fondly of this experience and time in his life. Younger brother (Tony) was a fun playmate to grow up with and Tim’s kind-hearted nature was further nurtured by childhood visits to Grandma and Grandpa Swain’s.

After Mom’s remarriage to John, Tim developed responsibility when he and Tony, who were already teenagers, were tasked with taking care of the new addition to the family, a little sister (Brenda). Soon enough, he graduated and was off to college in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he studied accounting. He began living with his brother (Tony) and then on his own after Tony’s marriage to Kathy. Tim joined the Moose Lodge and enjoyed a sport called disking with his dear friend, who he would sadly lose too soon, marking a pivotal point in his life. Over the years Tim worked many jobs, starting with 20 years in guest services and bookkeeping at the Airlanes Hotel in Thunder Bay (where he enthusiastically took a trip to Toronto for a conference), then front desk clerk and night auditor at both the Travelodge and Super 8 hotels in Salmon Arm, and finally as cashier at the Chevron before deciding upon retirement.

As an adult, Tim moved to British Columbia to be with Mom (Freda) and Dad (John). They enjoyed many family trips together to visit aunties, uncles, and cousins in Saskatchewan. Tim cared for both Mom and Dad dearly during their elderly years, so it certainly makes sense that his final resting place is with them, overlooking the beautiful mountains that he called home. Tim was known to strike up conversations easily with total strangers anywhere he went, which allowed him to forge friendships with his neighbours in the mobile home park, where he resided in his final years. Everyone would remark how Tim was ever so helpful. Tim always welcomed the opportunity to host family that stopped in at Canoe to enjoy a dinner or overnight stay. Tim’s most loving role was uncle, and he was such a great one. He built many fun memories with his sister (Brenda), her husband (Kelvin), and especially his niece (Sophia), from bowling and birthday parties to mini golf and dollhouses, even bouncing on the trampoline! He loved his time with all the kids in the family, but Sophia was definitely his greatest source of joy.

Recently, Tim dreamt of a trip with his sister and her family but sadly was never able to travel due to his declining health. However, he will certainly see the world now that he has earned his wings. We know he is at peace, reunited with his loved ones, and will proudly watch over and protect his family and friends from above.

Tim, you are so loved and will be missed forever.
