Terry Martin Obituary

MARTIN, Terry passed away at his home in Sicamous on Tuesday, May 24 at the age of 76.

Loving father of Derek (Rhonda), Shane (Tanya), and Stacy (Evie). Proud grandfather of Kristian (Ian), Sydney (Shelby) and Evan.

He is survived by his siblings: Don Martin (Norma), Fern Kroeker (Jake) and Brian Martin (Eileen), sister-in-law Karen and his loving partner and companion, Lena Rogers. He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Nellie (neé Heyden) and his step mother Alma, his sibling, Lorne Martin, his first wife, Lucy (neé Caffet) and second wife, Vivian (neé Hollis). Terry will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Throughout his life, Terry worked hard to build a career in the mining and heavy construction industry. He was a proud 50 plus year member of Local 1611 L.I.U.N.A Construction and Specialized Workers Union and he worked on many important projects across western Canada during his 35 year career, including the Revelstoke and Mica Creek Dam projects, the Roger’s Pass Train Tunnel, the Coquihalla Highway Project and the Kemano Tunnel project to name a few.

He had a passion for community and politics. Not one to shy away from a political debate, he was always quick to inform others about the effect governing bodies had on the community and those within it. In the early 80’s, Terry and a small group of Sicamous locals were able to lobby and fundraise enough to convince the District to build the Sicamous Rec Centre.

His generosity and willingness to help others came naturally to him. He was devoted, proud, headstrong, kind and loving and could fill a room with his booming laugh and smile. His presence was always known and his absence will be felt by many.

A Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held at the Eagle Valley Senior Citizens Housing Society in Sicamous, 1095 Shuswap Avenue, Sicamous, BC (250) 836-2446 on Saturday, June 4, 2022 from 3:30pm to 5:30 PM with Eulogies / Tributes commencing at 4 PM.

Memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Society would be appreciated by the family.
