Terrance (Terry) Balfour Obituary

December 26th 1962 – March 9th 2025

Our dear Terry passed away March 9th at home in Revelstoke surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Chilliwack to Ron & Marg Balfour where he lived his first 11 years before moving with his family to Vernon.

Terry’s renowned love of sports began at a very young age, toting his Bobby Orr lunchbox off to school, he was soon a proud member of the Pup Allstars hockey team. Throughout his youth and adult life, he excelled at ball and hockey and many of his lifelong friends were former teammates. He loved his Bruins and Yankees, even travelling to those cities. His other lifelong passion was his Rolling Stones, attending numerous concerts over decades.

Terry graduated in hospitality, starting his career in hotel management at the Capri where he worked for 12 years. He also worked for Royal Caribbean a few years (think Gopher) and Puerto Rico for 8 years before returning to B.C. to work at Port Hardy, then finally Revelstoke to open the new Ramada in 2017. His kindhearted leadership and attention to detail led to his hotel being one of the top rated Ramada’s in North America. He was loved by his staff and bosses.

Away from work, Terry loved his time at the family cabin. He was a favorite of cousins and nieces and nephews, usually starting the board games that lasted hours with many laughs. He was quick with the one liner’s and had a colorful nickname for everyone. Terry was the family glue, and it will not be the same without him. Like his mom and beloved sister, he made everyone feel special, no exceptions.

He was also a card shark and could beat you at a game you taught him ten minutes ago. Terry’s personal life took a giant upswing after he met and married Mayuri, the love of his life and forever soulmate. Their biggest pleasure was travelling together to Australia for an extended visit with the other loves of his life, daughter; Brianna, her husband; Brad and Terry’s three grandkids, who meant everything to him.

Terry often cited his parents as the inspiration for who he became. He was humble, caring and loving his whole life and likely the best person we will know.

Terry is survived by his Loving wife; Mayuri, her sibling; Anurag, her parents; Ranjan & Arvind Parmar. His Daughter; Brianna (Brad) Schulz, their children; Lachlan, Oliver and Ruby. Brothers; Pat (Marillyn), Tim (Jane) and Mike as well as many extended family members. Terry was predeceased by his parents; Ron and Marg and his sister; Michelle. Memorial donations may be made in Terry’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
