It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Stewart Alexander (Stew) Kleinsteuber on Monday, September 29th, 2025.
Stewart was born in Wadena, Saskatchewan, to Alexander (Alec) & Sophia (Sophie) Kleinsteuber on August 1st, 1945. In 1956, his parents moved the family from their home in Nut Mountain, Saskatchewan, to Golden, BC, where Stew grew up with his sister and brothers.
At the age of eighteen, Stew began his career with BC Hydro in Golden. He met his wife, Aline, in Golden at the Arl Cafe, where she worked. His persistence paid off, and they were married in 1968 at the Invermere United Church. A few years later, they gave birth to their daughter Pamela (Pam).
Stew worked for the majority of his career at various levels of BC Hydro, which led his family to be relocated to several locations in BC, including Invermere, Cache Creek, Revelstoke, and Vernon. One of Stew’s proudest moments was building their family dream home in Invermere, where he had fond memories of raising his daughter, Pam, with Aline.
Stew retired in the early 2000s and lived in Sicamous, BC. In retirement, Aline & Stew loved travelling, RV camping and watching their grandchildren grow up. In his pastime, Stew enjoyed pursuing his passion for cars. Learning everything related to cars, including the mechanics behind them, the history of older cars, and the latest models. Usually, these moments were shared with his pal Zoe, the family dog, with a cup of coffee.
He will be deeply missed & remembered by his wife, Aline, his daughter, Pam (Jason) Soares, and his three grandchildren, Dylan Soares, Tyson (Erin Fisher) Soares, and Kelly (Ronan Wilson) Soares. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Williams; two brothers, Keith Kleinsteuber and Terry Kleinsteuber; as well as his nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Kleinsteuber, his mother, Sophia Kleinsteuber, and his brother, Eslie Kleinsteuber.
A graveside funeral service in honour of Stew will be held on October 18, 2025, at 1:30 pm, in Golden, BC, with a reception at the Golden Funeral Home to follow, at about 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Stew’s memory to The Rossy Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Centre.
