Stephen Stuart Ambrose

It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Steve Ambrose announce his unexpected passing on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at the age of 65 years in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. 

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Steve grew up in a number of locations across the country and the world due to his father’s military career, including: Vancouver, B.C, Comox, .B.C, Zweibrucken, Germany, Moose Jaw, Sask., Brandon, Man. and Medicine Hat, Ab. before the family finally settled in Sicamous, B.C. in 1974.

Steve was predeceased by his father, Stuart Ambrose in 2007 and will be forever loved and missed by his mother, Irene Ambrose, brothers Dave Ambrose and Doug Ambrose, sister Kelly Stone (Gary), nieces, Jennifer Stone (Elliott Manum), Wendy Stone (Andrew Carleton), his Aunt Pam and Uncle Robert Ambrose, numerous cousins, as well as all his many dear and cherished friends. 

Steve was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be remembered for so many things: 

For running the Sicamous Turbo non-stop for four years without a day off or leaving the property, during which time he made many life-long friendships. He was instrumental in starting and operating Sicamous Cedar Products along with his father. Steve eventually bought the business and continued to apply his non-stop working philosophy to create a very successful single owner – single worker business. It was all Steve and he loved it.  

Steve was brilliant and very much an individual; he loved to talk, eat good food, and an astonishing amount of it, to perform, to dance and he loved his ninja training. He loved to work. He loved acting as his own lawyer – and winning. He loved to give everyone crazy nicknames that stuck for life and telling wild embellished tales and wasn’t hampered by little details like the truth. He was non-judgmental and enjoyed everyone’s company. 

Steve was everyone’s rock and his goodness was so far-reaching and so distinct from anyone else we know. 

While others may be a candle, you sir, are the sun. Your shoes will never be filled. Not today, not ever.
