Sharon Gerry Obituary

There will be a Celebration of Life at EAGLE RIVER SECONDARY GYM SATURDAY MAY 30 AT 2PM.

Survived by her husband, Delbert Gerry, her children Christine Horton and Colleen Hughes, her son in law, Jarrett Hughes, her grandchildren Mitchell, Chauntel, Leroy, Payton, Kaylin, Madylin, Triton, Toby and Lincoln, and her great grandchildren, Brynnley and Skylar, her brother Patrick Sullivan and his family, her husband’s brother Butch, his wife Darlene, and their family. She is predeceased most notably by her son Steven, her two miscarriages, her brother Bill, her parents and her son-in-law, Brock.

Sharon was born in Powell River as the oldest child to Howard (Sully) and Lois Sullivan, and raised in Surrey, BC. She graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School and has maintained many of her childhood friendships through long phone conversations, letters, social media and travel. Sharon and Del married in 1972 and lived in Hydro towns, Mica Creek and Hudson’s Hope, before settling in Malakwa, BC in 1980 where they built their dream home and shared it with the community through countless parties and impromptu gatherings. For the last 17 years Del and Sharon have wintered in Mazatlan where they purchased a second home and have cherished their communities in both Malakwa and Mazatlan.

Sharon was a telephone operator for BC Tel before marrying Del and settling into her role of CEO of chaos and a domestic influencer. Her main role was driving, cooking, baking, cheerleading and organizing the lives of her three children and all their friends. Yet she still found time to work as a Hydro Dam tour guide, a Welcome Wagon Hostess, a hayride clown, an election officer, a noon hour supervisor and in school suspension warden at Eagle River Secondary and then noon hour supervisor at Malakwa Elementary. She also spent countless hours volunteering at the church in various ministries and assisting with campaign promotion during election time.

Over the years Sharon has been a positive and encouraging example of love, hope and joy. She has shown resiliency in loss and health scares through determination and the devoted support of her husband/live in nurse, Del. Their marriage has been inspirational as they moved through every loss and gain with the knowledge that at the end of every day, they were still best friends. We have no doubt that Sharon has self-appointed herself the new Welcome Wagon Lady in heaven. When you get there, she’ll be holding a welcome sign in one hand and a gift basket in the other with her homemade jam and a map of where her favorite people are located.

While we are devastated and miss her terribly, we acknowledge that Jesus just threw her the best surprise party and invited her family that got there first. She is loved. She was the matriarch of our homes, our hearts and her communities. Whenever anything happened, good or bad, our first thought was to call her. That will never change. She will live on in her stories that we will now tell. Over and over.

Until we meet again.

There is a livestream link available for those that cannot travel or would like to watch it again later on YouTube.

Sharon did volunteer work in Mazatlan for 18 years, and led many fundraisers locally to support the church ministries in Mazatlan.

We encourage friends and family to make a donation to this charity in memory of her.
