Obituary

Born April 08, 1934 to George Henry Ivan Bickford and Irene Bickford.
Passed away March 13, 2023. 88 years old.

Mom was born to a farming family in Looe Cornwall England. She was the youngest of four daughters. She had a close relationship with horses her whole life, riding equestrian when she was young and western later in life after coming to Canada. She obtained a diploma in agriculture in England, then moved to Canada in 1956 to take a job at the Bostock Ranch at Monte Creek BC. While working at the Bostock’s, she met our father Leslie, who had a ranch nearby at Monte Lake and he did some work for the Bostock’s building irrigation flumes.
In September of 1958 they returned to England to be married. After a short honeymoon they settled at Dad’s ranch where Charlie was born. Mom said it wasn’t much of a house. You could see daylight through gaps in the walls.

With the desire to purchase a larger more efficient ranch, they purchased the Halfway Ranch between Lytton and Lillooet in 1960, where Robert was born. They loved the ranch, but on dad’s doctor’s advice sold it in 1965. After a brief time on Vancouver Island they moved back to Lillooet/Lytton area where Dad worked on farms and ranches.
At this time Mom really wanted a daughter, so they went through the adoption process. We welcomed Pat into our family at the age of 2 weeks.
In 1971 we moved to Sorrento BC to a small farm.

Mom continued to ride her horses for many more years. Her other main interests were her vegetable garden and spending time with Pat and Doug’s 3 children who lived nearby. She was a bit of a “no nonsense” Grandma and when Charlie’s two boys would go and stay with her occasionally we suggested they were going to get “straightened out”.

She spent her retirement years very involved in her local community of Sorrento doing volunteer work with charities, Sorrento OAPO and St. Mary’s Anglican Church.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister Elizabeth, husband Les, son in law Doug and granddaughters Alli and Cassidy. She is survived by her sisters Pauline, Rachel (James), children Charlie (Hetty), Rob (Peggy), Pat (Keith), grandchildren Brad (Christina), Jeff (Maddy), Cody (Amy) and five great grandchildren.

As per Mom’s request to “not make a big fuss” there will not be a formal funeral service.

In lieu of flowers a donation could be made to a charity of your choice. Mom supported the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation and the SPCA.
