Roy Stankevich

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend has gone to rest.

Roy was born in New Westminster, BC, to his parents, Joseph and Josephine Stankevich. The family lived in Surrey and raised hogs for market. When he was an early teenager, they later moved to Enderby, BC, where his parents purchased what is still to this day, lovingly referred to as “The Farm”. He was the second born of six children and grew up working the farm and going to school in Enderby.

Roy met his wife, Vicki, at Mica Creek in 1970 where he was working as a logger and fighting forest fires. They soon married in 1971 in Vicki’s hometown of Clearwater, BC. Together with their son, Tom, they lived in Boat Encampment until the Mica Dam reservoir was filled. Relocating to Revelstoke, BC, in 1972, their second child, Colleen, arrived in 1976. Revelstoke is where they have raised their family and built their life for the past 54 years of marriage.

Roy was a well-known, hardworking and respected logger, truck driver and equipment operator in the Revelstoke area. In 2002, Roy and Vicki started their own trucking business, V&R Transport, hauling wood chips. Finally, after 45 years of driving trucks, Dad retired in 2012.

Predeceased by his father, Joe; mother, Jo; nephew, Kevin; and sister-in-law, Donna. Roy is survived by his loving wife, Vicki; children, Tom and Colleen; grandchildren, Jaeden and Peyton; siblings, Roger (Dale), Joe (Kitty), Evelyn (Jim), Phillip, and Wendy (Ray); along with numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Dad was a lover of vintage cars and trucks, as well as a true, Jack of all Trades. If it had an engine, he could both drive it and fix it. If it needed building, he could build it…and if he didn’t have the right tool, he would simply make one. Dad was happiest in the great outdoors. Fishing, camping and quadding were his joys. Dad took the family on many adventures into remote places that few would get the privilege to experience in the surrounding mountains of Revelstoke. Many dirt roads were explored with a packed cooler in tow “just to see where it goes”. These adventures often ended with a spectacular view and roasting hotdogs over a campfire. Most summers were spent up The Bend and throughout BC’s interior camping and fishing. Former members of the ATV Club, Roy and Vicki would hit the trails with their dog Buster and later, Boomer, along for the ride. In Dad’s later years of camping, he and mom were frequent and well-known summer residents of Downie Creek Campground, where they spent much of their time with friends and family. Until recent years, Roy would often be seen walking his four-legged best-buddies along the greenbelt path of the Illecillewaet River.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to all of Dad’s homecare and wound care nurses, therapists and Doctors. Especially to the Acute Care team at Queen Victoria Hospital and to Dr. Kirk and Dr. Kate McCarroll, and Dr. Sara Brown. You all treated Dad with such care and kindness.

Be at peace, Dad. May the ATV trails be endless, the fish plentiful, and the campfire high and joyful. You will be missed by many, always remembered, and loved forever.
