Roderick "Noel" Genier Obituary

Roderick Noel McKenzie Genier was born November 24th, 1942 in Vernon BC and passed away September 5th, 2026, in Salmon Arm BC at the age of 83. He was raised on his parents Mary and Earl Geniers dairy farm in Lumby. He was the middle child. His older brother Ronald deceased in 2022 and younger sister Mern.

Noel is survived by sister Mern (Rod) and Merns children Brady (daughter Courtney), Colleen (Curt) daughter Samantha (Zech) and their two daughters Kyra and Mariah), Todd (Zoe) and their son Kieran. and he shared a special relationship with his Genier nephews and nieces throughout his lifetime.

Noel attended school in Lumby graduating in 1961, was class valedictorian. Noel was a scholar, especially in science and math. He was also very athletic in track and field as well as hockey, softball and skiing.

Once he completed high school he went to Victoria, articled and became a chartered accountant. Thus began many adventures in business and pleasure. He was either working in foreign countries like Bahrain as a VP of D.H.L. He played recreational hockey locally as well as in Russia or Hawaii.

He loved a challenge to analyze and develop a plan to improve any given situation when he took on a job with any company. It gave him great satisfaction when he accomplished success for the said business he hired on to help. Personal gain and wealth were not his priorities.

Noel thrived on word and board games that required strategies and tactical moves and enjoyed the children in his life who played these games with him and was constantly amazed at their intellect and lovely personalities. It gave him hope that their contributions to the world would be appreciated.

Noel had a kind heart, brilliant mind, high ethics and a great sense of humour. He gave credit where credit was due. And continued to impart his wisdom to his employer and fellow workers until his passing. Noel also delivered the local paper not only for the exercise, but the enjoyment of the people on his route right up to his passing.

He made his mark and will be really missed by all who knew him.

The family of Noel wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the bystanders and first responders who came to his aid on the day of his passing. Your quick response, kindness, and compassion made an otherwise terrifying experience more bearable. Our family felt deeply supported and cared for, and we will forever be grateful for the love and humanity you showed us during such a difficult time.
