It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Fukumoto. Bob passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Bob was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Nobue and Mas Fukumoto. He is survived by his older brother Wayne (Sylvia) and younger brother Jeff (Diane), and was predeceased by his younger sister Christine (Dan).
Bob spent his childhood and early adulthood in Calgary and Edmonton, where he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball, fishing, bike riding, and vacationing in Toronto and the Okanagan. He graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and went on to have an impressive career as a geologist in Alberta’s oil and gas industry.
But more important to Bob than any career accomplishment was his family and friends.
In 1980, in a country western bar, Bob met his “hotty” and the love of his life, Judy. After just one dance, he told himself, “this is going to be the girl I marry.” In 1982, Bob and Judy were married, and in 1988, they relocated their family to Salmon Arm, BC, where Bob took full advantage of everything the Shuswap had to offer.
You could find Bob on a baseball field or in a hockey arena, coaching his kids’ sports and always rooting for the underdog. Later in life, you were likely to run into him bike riding, golfing, at one of his friends’ pool, pong or poker events, or bringing his kids and their friends together for one of his countless gatherings at the house.
You could always count on Bob for a good time, a good laugh, and a story or two.
Perhaps what was most near and dear to Bob’s heart were his grandchildren, Myla, Dax and Grady. To them, Grandpa was “simply the best.”
Bob left an impact on so many people and will be sorely missed by his wife, Judy; his children, David (Ruth), Laura and Rich (Jess); and his grandchildren, Myla, Dax and Grady.
His laughter, generosity, love of life, and ability to bring people together will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on October 24, 2026, with family and close friends.
