Richard Brian Torrence was born on May 5, 1950, in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, to Agnes and Bob Torrence. The family lived in Kelvington for many years, where Rick attended school and grew up with his siblings in the tight-knit community. During his teenage years, he worked for Mr. Patrick at a local store and would often recount stories of his time there.
Following the family's separation, Rick moved with his mother to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In 1970 Rick and a few old friends from Kelvington set off for Golden, BC, where opportunities awaited in the lumbering industry. Shortly after arriving in Golden, Rick met and married Colleen Rauch, and the couple settled in their first home in Castledale. By the time their daughter Mandy was born, they had moved closer to Golden. Their family was completed with the birth of their son Patrick three and a half years later.
Throughout his career, Rick worked at several mills, including Crestbrook Forest Industries in Parson, Evans in Golden, and Selkirk Spruce Mills in Donald. He became a certified welder during his time in the lumber industry, but due to a back injury, he had to switch to a more suitable line of work. Rick then began driving commercially, hauling fuel for Trimac, and wood chips to and from mills. Before retiring, he worked for Gottler Bros.
In 1996, Rick and Colleen divorced, and after selling their family home, Rick moved to Nicholson. There, he formed cherished friendships and was happiest when visiting, camping, or quading with Shawn and Chelsea, Ken and Mel, and Don and Anita and their families. He also shared a special friendship with Cathy. Rick was predeceased by his parents, his beloved daughter Mandy, and his niece Patty Corrigal. He is survived by his son Patrick and his grandchildren Michael (Kelly) Torrence, Jessica (Grayson) McGregor, and Nathaniel Grace. He is also survived by his sister Peggy (Hakan) Cederberg, brothers John (Tracy)Torrence and James Torrence, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A scattering of Rick's ashes will be announced to his friends and family at a later date.
