Richard Munroe Obituary

On Nov 3, 2025 Richard passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 86 with family and his beloved dog, Norm by his bedside.

Richard was born in Revelstoke on Aug 07, 1939 to his parents, Stanley Berkeley Munroe and Myrtle May Hamilton.

Richard met Val in 1959 when she was working at Gregory’s store and service station. Richard was offered a part-time job by the owners – to take Val out on a date. Richard always said, “It was the best job offer I ever had or would ever get”. That part-time job turned into a lifetime of love and laughter. They married in Oct 1961 and were together for 55 years until her passing in 2016.

He worked for D&A Logging, Downie Timber, and independent contractors. After his retirement, he continued to do contract work. Richard was active in local clubs and sports, notably the Revelstoke Ski-Jumping Club, the Rod and Gun Club, Old Timers’ hockey, curling, softball, and bowling.

Spring break with the young family usually started on Vancouver Island and continued through the summer months with fishing and camping on weekends. Richard and the family were gone almost every weekend. Fall was no exception – he was always eager to take advantage of the upcoming hunting season. Richard’s favourite spot to take Val camping and fishing was at 30 mile on Lake Revelstoke and at Ken and Jenny’s on the Arrow lakes. To catch the big salmon, they would go to Pritchard. Closer to home, Richard was always working in his yard. One of his greatest sources of pride was his large garden full of beautiful flowers. Once the yard work was done, he always had time for a cup of coffee with his many coffee groups over the years. But if you were to ask him, he’d likely admit he liked homemade coffee complete with a glug of Irish cream.

Richard was a man of quick smiles, clever wit, and an unshakeable ability to persevere through thick and thin. His love of the outdoors and deep affection for all those who knew him is his greatest legacy. He was always willing to stop and talk with you in town, whether at Cooper’s, the post office, or walking Norm along the dyke path with pockets stuffed full of dog treats. Richard will be greatly missed by friends, family and caring neighbours.

Richard was predeceased by his wife, Valentina, parents, brother, Stanley, and two sisters, Bernice and Noreen. His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Tanya Camara, her husband, Mark, and their sons, Burkely and Cameron; and by his son, Don Munroe, his wife, Tanya Kemprud, and their sons, Henrik and Sawyer; and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and homecare workers involved in Richard’s care. A special thanks to Dr. Molder and Teresa Wynn.

At Richard’s request there will be no funeral service. A small gathering will be held for family and friends at a later date.
