It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Bob passed away at the age of 95, surrounded by his loved ones, in the early morning hours of March 26th at the Salmon Arm General Hospital.
Bob lived a full, active life with his wife Iris by his side, golfing, camping, fishing, flying his 4 seater plane and travelling in their motorhome to many sunny destinations. Bob had a fulfilling career serving 35+ years as a BC Land Surveyor, including serving on the executive board and receiving Life Membership for distinguished service with the Assoc. of British Columbia Land Surveyors. Bob enjoyed telling the many stories of his early years as a young surveyor working in central and northern BC creating maps of the area that are still used today. Upon being commissioned as a BCLS, he opened an office in the then town of Salmon Arm, moving his young family of 5 children from Victoria in 1961. As the town grew, he was active in guiding and planning for the development and growth in the Shuswap/Revelstoke area. Bob was a very active and well respected member of the Business Community. Bob enjoyed being involved in changes to the community. Volunteering on many worthwhile service projects. Chairing major expansions to the Hospital facilities as well as presiding over the Flying Club construction and relocation to a new airfield for Salmon Arm. He made many lasting friendships through the years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Iris of 47 years and children, Greg Browne (Janice), Janice Roy (Maurice), Kim Howe (Brian), Teresa Pukas (Dwayne), Bruce Browne (Kim), Darrell Rolin (Heather), Brenda Rolin (Claude); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Fae Fazzolari and brothers Garry and Norman Browne. He was predeceased by brother Bud, sister Marie and son-in-law Verne Wren. Merlyn’s (Bob’s) ashes will be interred at Mt. Ida Cemetery. A small family service will be held.
Condolences can be submitted on the Bower’s Funeral Home website.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Shuswap Community Foundation.
