It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Mom, Marlene Pelttari on December 22, 2025 in Salmon Arm BC.
Marlene was born in Ottawa, Ontario on May 23, 1933. As a child, she lived in Ottawa, Medicine Hat, Calgary and Fairmount BC. She began working at an early age at the S Half Diamond Ranch in the Columbia Valley and Palm Springs California. In 1951, she met and married our father, Taisto Pelttari in Cranbrook, BC. Dad’s work with CPR took the family to Red Grave, Harrogate, Donald, Monte Creek. In 1968 they moved to Revelstoke, the place that she loved and always called home.
Marlene loved gardening, and her yard on CPR hill was beautiful. She took great pleasure and pride in tending it. Her door was always open to our friends, all of whom remember her fondly. She was kind and caring and thought the best of everyone. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished the time she spent time with them. We could always count on her to lend a helping hand, whenever it was needed.
An avid reader, Marlene always had books piled around her chair. She travelled twice to England and Ireland, where she visited her mother’s birthplace and met many of her Irish cousins. She also enjoyed her Wells Grey Tours, road trips with friends, and socializing with the Red Hat Ladies, the Friday night Rummoli group, TOPS and the Conversation’s Coffee Gang.
Marlene was a 50-year member of the Revelstoke Hospital Auxiliary and served as a board member on the Moberly Manor Society. She was also a member of the Revelstoke Museum and the Revelstoke Railway Museum. A lover of history, she worked as a tour guide at Three Valley Gap until the age of 71.
In 2013, Marlene moved to Selkirk Gardens, where she settled in with a wonderful group of neighbours. She filled her deck with potted flowers and enjoyed the social gatherings for all occasions. She was sad to leave Revelstoke in 2023 when she moved to Salmon Arm to be closer to family.
Marlene was predeceased by her husband, Taisto, in 2007, her daughter Sandy, in 2010 and her son, Kevin, in 2022.
She is survived by her children: Darlene (Murray), Brenda (Steve), and Valerie (Ashley); her sister, Tannis; her grandchildren, Jonathan, Jordy, Allison, Matthew, Evan, Jillian, Jessica, Waylon, Texas and Noah; and her 13 great grandchildren.
A memorial service and tea will be held in the spring 2026 in Revelstoke.
