Margot Chapman Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful mother Margot at Bastion Place. She was born to Norwegian parents in Shellbrook Saskatchewan. When she was 1 1/2 years old the family travelled to Norway for a visit that lasted 4 years. When they returned to Canada the family settled in Big River Saskatchewan. Margot started school often travelling by dog sled in the cold winter months. She quickly mastered English as Norwegian was her first language. In 1938 the family headed west and started a small farm in Surrey. Margot completed high school and commercial college. This led to a career as an IBM key punch operator. While ice skating at Queen’s Park arena she met the love of her life Chester. They were married in 1951 and enjoyed 65 years together. They often took holidays to the Okanagan. It was on one of these adventures that they decide to move to Mara and a few years later to Sicamous. They spent 50 years in the community working and raising their 2 daughters. Margot had many interests. She loved baking, knitting and spent many hours in her flower garden. She excelled at sports. Her favourites were swimming, water-skiing and ice skating. She was an active member of the Kinette & K-Ette clubs. In retirement she and Ches enjoyed many years wintering in Arizona where they had a large circle of friends. Pre-deceased by her father Gunnar, mother Ruth, step-father Leonard and husband Chester. She is survived by daughters Susan & Sharon (Charles), grandchildren Dylan & Dana along with brother-in-law Keith (Val), nieces & nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Bastion for their kindness and care of Margot over the past year.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
