It is with sadness that we announce the passing of “Lyn” Margaret Roselyn Bittner (née Trevena).
May 8, 1942 - March 21, 2026
Lyn was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the first of two daughters to Charles and Margaret Trevena. Her father was in the Royal Air Force and met his bride overseas, returning to Canada to start their family and head west to B.C. Lyn had fond childhood memories of living on Salt Spring Island, climbing onto the neighbour’s roof and watching the whales swim by.
She excelled in all things academic- Latin was her favourite subject. She was also naturally gifted artistically, skilled at drawing, painting and pastels. These skills would be used later in life to design and paint the calligraphy banners that hung in the church, and to retouch portraits by hand at the family photography business before the digital era of photo editing was upon us. Her eyes lit up for education, literature and art. She had an extensive collection of books and was a continual learner for her whole life.
Lyn was guided by her strong values and moral compass. She lived according to her principles of generosity and fairness. Together with her husband Bob, they raised five children, four of whom were adopted. She also loved animals, having adopted countless pets including several retired racing greyhounds whose “value” was no longer recognized by the industry. Lyn would also take many opportunities to share a meal with those less fortunate - to give them hope and ensure they felt loved and a sense of belonging.
Lyn was a strong, unapologetic advocate for doing the right thing. Her desire to empower the underdog transcended into her teaching career. This was another platform for her to show others that they matter.
Lyn is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Robert, her five children Danny, David, Stephanie (Danny) de Jager, Stacey (Jess) Brensrud, and Mike (Jodie), her grandchildren (Eve, Eli, Brandon and Skylar), her sister Karen (Lyle) Larrigan as well as nieces and a nephew.
Revelstoke was Lyn’s home for 49 years. Her family would like to extend their thanks for the quality care that she received in her later years.
Lyn will be dearly missed.
