Lyle Chapman Obituary

It is with shattered hearts that we announce that Lyle Douglas Chapman passed away, surrounded by his family, on November 14th 2024 at the age of 52 years old in Kamloops, BC.

Lyle was born in Tofino, British Columbia on September 13th 1972 to parents Paul Archibald Chapman and Brenda Jean (Pinel) Chapman. Lyle spent his childhood years growing up on Haidi Gwaii, before moving to Vancouver Island as a teenager. He graduated from Alberni District Secondary School in 1990 before attending Malaspina College and the University of Victoria where he received his Bachelor of Education. He went on to complete his Masters of Education from the University of Victoria in 2002.

Lyle started his career in education in 1996 at Eagle River Secondary School in Sicamous, BC. He went on to have a very successful career as a teacher, counsellor, and principal for just over 28 years. His teaching career led him to work in several schools in School District #83 before transitioning to a Vice Principal role at Osoyoos Senior Secondary in 2015. In 2017 he continued his role as a Vice Principal at Kalamalka Secondary, eventually transitioning to Vernon Secondary School in 2019. His goal of becoming a principal became his reality when he rejoined School District #83 in 2022 as the Principal at Eagle River Secondary School. Lyle spent his career focused on creating a safe and supportive space for students and staff alike. He was unapologetic in his pursuit of fostering growth and community within his schools. He spent every morning welcoming students as they arrived at school.

Lyle found his happiness in time with his family and friends who are family. Attending concerts, riding his motorcycle (and other fast vehicles), drinking coffee, enjoying athletics, and being a girl dad were some of his greatest passions outside of his career.  He shared his life’s adventures with his wife, Leigh-Anne, from the time they started dating as teenagers. They found their greatest joys in their two girls, special moments together, and various travels near and far.

Lyle is remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Leigh-Anne (Hughes) Chapman, his children Brianna (Dylan) and Emma-Leigh (Joey), his brother Ian (Vicki), his beloved in-laws Linda & Greg Hughes, his brother-in-law David (Sabrina), his sister-in-law Jacquelyn (Clayton), many beloved nieces and nephews and cherished friends who he considered family. Lyle was predeceased by his father Paul, mother Brenda, and brother Michael.

A Celebration of Lyle’s life will be held at Salmon Arm Secondary, Sullivan Campus (1641 30th Street NE, Salmon Arm, BC) on November 30th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers there will be a scholarship fund established in the near future. Those details will be shared by the family as soon as they’re available. The family requests for Plaid to be worn to his Celebration.

Rest In Peace Lyle, you are deeply missed.
