A resident of Salmon Arm, BC for over 50 years, Ludger (Lou) Paul Painchaud died on January 12, 2026, after a difficult journey with cancer and dementia. The son of Alfred and Alice (Bruneau) Painchaud, Lou was born in Leoville, Saskatchewan on March 24, 1950. Moving to Salmon Arm in the early 70's, Lou worked at Fireside Electric and then started his own heating and sheet metal business, Lou's Sheet Metal in 1979.
Lou will be missed by his daughter, Nicole (Darren), his wife Linda, and Linda's daughters, Katherine and Melinda (Justin) along with their children William and Connor. Predeceased by his parents, brother, André and sister, Aline, Lou is survived by his siblings, Albert, Thérese, Lea (David), Irene (Rick) and Muriel. Family was important to Lou, and he spent many Christmases and part of every summer in Saskatchewan, where he loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews.
From an early age, tractors were a big part of his life, from ploughing the potato patch to moving snow, machines beat manual digging any day. His collection of tractors grew until he had one for every job.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Drs. D. Breugem, J.Levins, and J.S. Durham for their care and compassion, with a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Mount Ida Mews (Chinook) for treating Lou and Linda as family.
A funeral mass was held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

Thank you to Olivia and the team at Bowers Funeral Home for their support and care.
