It is with great sadness that the family of Lina Shultz advise of her passing on August 21, 2025 at the age of 99 years young.
Lina was born in Montreal, Quebec to meager beginnings and spent most of her adult years in Ontario. Over the course of her life she was a fiercely independent and strong woman and she ensured that her children were independent and self reliant as well. From a solo trip to Greece, many rail and bus trips to Montreal and Alberta and her final move to Salmon Arm, BC at the age of 93 she was always surprising us. She taught all of her four children as well as her nephews Warren and Bruce to swim despite her fear of water and not being able to swim herself.
Lina was extremely charitable and had a very strong moral compass. Her family meant everything to her and she quietly (and sometimes not so quietly) guided them along. She always brought a sense of humor with her wherever she went, and it got her through some tough situations. Lina was a “feisty little old Italian woman” right to the end.
Lina was pre-deceased by her husband Gordon (2015), her mother and her 7 siblings. She is survived by her children James, Donna, Jean Tooley (Mack) and Sharon (Dan Taylor); her grandchildren Richard Cole (Jill Ho-You), Matthew (Laura) and Nathan and her great granddaughters Hannah, Ava and Elle. She is also survived by her step-family Leah Fischer (Jim Cookson) and Leah’s children and grandchildren Victoria Doring (Mel), Daxton Podollan, Chloe Doring and Ella Doring. Surviving her also are two sisters-in-law residing in Ontario, Donella Dagg and Shirley Vernon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no service at her request and her cremated remains will be sprinkled alongside Gordon near the Ontario cottage the family owned for many years.
In lieu of flowers Lina would appreciate you hugging your loved ones and keeping them close. She would also encourage you to be generous and “pay it forward” as often as you can.
