It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Huntington on September 14, 2026. Betty was born in Nordegg, Alberta, on June 20, 1934, to Wilfred and Laura Gray. Betty met Don Huntington in high school in Mirror, Alberta, where they fell in love and were married in 1953. Together, they had two daughters, Patricia and Terry, and shared 73 years of love and adventure together. Betty and Don lived in Smithers, Terrace, and Prince Rupert before moving their family to Salmon Arm in 1969, Betty truly came to love the Shuswap.
Betty will be remembered as kind and compassionate, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She was always supportive and had a wonderful sense of humour. She had a great memory of places, people, events, and travels, of which there were many.
Betty loved skiing, mostly at Silver Star with her family and a group of friends nicknamed “The Mountain Mafia.” She also loved camping, canoeing, the great outdoors, golfing, and her Ladies Keep Fit group, which she attended for many years. Above all, she enjoyed family get-togethers and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Don; daughters Patricia Ballard (Larry) and Terry Wallensteen (David); four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful for the wonderful care Betty received at both Picadilly Terrace and Mount Ida Mews. Betty will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. As per Betty’s wishes, there will be no public service.
