Klaas "Clarence" Schuurman

February 7, 1930 ~ August 29, 2023 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Obituary

Born the youngest of a large family, on a small farm in The Netherlands, Clarence came to Vancouver at the tender age of 18 accompanied by his brother, Herman.

He leaves behind Rina, his wife of nearly 70 years; his 5 children: Joanne Wilcox, Gordon (Karen), Robert (Carrie), Irene Bevandick (Greg) and Steven (Jeannie); 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Wesselina Aleida Schuurman-Lammers (in1946) and Klaas Schuurman (in 1953), 6 brothers, 2 sisters and son-in-law Bill.

He was a nurturing family man who would be the first one to help anyone in need.  Home life was vital to Clarence and his hobby farm on the Fraser River in Richmond, where his kids grew up, was a place of contentment.  Mechanics came second-nature to him and with his inborn leadership and negotiating abilities, he managed to climb up from being a truck driver to becoming the President and Operations Manager of a 65-unit trucking firm in Vancouver; with affiliates in Calgary, Edmonton and Victoria – each with their own multiple units.  He took early retirement at age 56 and in 1988 transferred his hobby farm passions to the Gleneden acreage in Salmon Arm.

Clarence will be greatly missed by those close to him and we will always appreciate his life and most importantly, his lifestyle.

He was an example to us all.

A life well lived.
