It is with a mix of sorrow and much gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Ken Davies, beloved husband, father, papa, great papa, uncle and cousin . He passed away peacefully March 21, with his wife Wendy by his side. He will be sadly missed, and fondly remembered.
Ken was born in Port Alberni, B.C, on November 8th 1943. He spent his school years there, with his sister Betty and a large extended family around him . He grew up loving the outdoors and spoke of cycling to, and swimming in, Sproat lake, climbing Mt.Arrowsmith and his many trips to Long Beach. He was always eager to try new things, from surfing at Long Beach or making a still in their basement.
He met Wendy at UBC where both were finishing their degree’s. He offered her half his chocolate bar at a bus stop, and the rest was history. They made friends there that lasted a lifetime. They were married September 10th, 1966.
In 1969 they moved North to Dawson Creek B.C. where they bought a small acreage and dabbled in hobby farming for the next 45 years. Ken continued his love of the outdoors from hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, cross country skiing, and hiking. There he began his 30-year teaching career. He was an elementary/secondary teacher, a computer science teacher, and a principal over the course of his career. He introduced computers to schools in the South Peace School District. After he retired, he served on a variety of community boards. Teaching, and learning were always incredibly important to him.
In 2014 Wendy and Ken made the move to Salmon Arm, where they spent the next 12 years gardening, walking Little Mountain with their dog Bell, being involved in the local Welsh Club and the Anglican Church. His love for woodworking is shown throughout their home, indoors and outdoors. He took great pride in all his projects.
But the absolute love of his life was his family. He was known for his story telling, his love of books, and music. He held a special interest in his family history, especially his Welsh Maritime history. He spent hours researching and writing his family’s story. He always had a curiosity and deep interest in his family, past and present.
Ken will always be remembered for his humour, sarcasm, his amazing smile and his love for dogs.
Ken is survived by his wife Wendy Davies. His two daughters Rona Davies (Chad Dalke), and Kirsten Davies (Carson Newby), his four grandchildren, Sydney (Brendan), Brighid, Nikolas and Jarod. Two Great Grandchildren Watson and June. And many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Lewis and Olive Davies, his sister Betty Lou Sundquist.
Thank you to the caregivers with Guided Heart Home Care for providing such good care of Ken in his final few months. Thank you to the paramedics, emergency room staff and the nurses on 4th floor of the Shuswap Lake General Hospital for their gentle care in Ken’s final hours. And a special thank you to Dr Weiker for his care over the time we’ve been here, and for his support and understanding as we navigated this difficult journey.
A celebration of life and open house will be held at Ken and Wendy’s home in Salmon Arm May 16th, 2026, from 2pm - 5pm.
