The family of Kathleen Joan Sholinder (nee Huntington) is sad to announce her passing at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Saturday Oct 5, 2024 with family by her side.
Kay was predeceased by her son Gerald and husband Fay. Survived by her sons Blaine, Murray (Cindy), daughter Joan and granddaughters Ariana and Danika.
Kay was born in Kelvington, SK in 1938 and moved with her family a couple times before ending up in Smithers, BC in 1951 where her father was an Engineer with CN Railway. She met Fay Sholinder in Smithers and they were married in 1958 and started a family. In 1972 they moved to Salmon Arm where together they ran Fayden Electric, a lighting and appliance store along with a residential and commercial electrical contracting business. They had many happy years and memories together in Salmon Arm, especially at the Salmon Arm Curling Club and the Salmon Arm Golf Club, where they were long time members and established many friendships over the years. In retirement, Kay and Fay enjoyed travelling and spent many years in their motorhome exploring the Southern States, golfing in the desert sun and meeting new friends. In their later years when they no longer travelled much, Kay enjoyed watching her two grandchildren in their sporting activities, going to live music or theatre, quilting/sewing, reading and spending time with family.
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life on Monday Oct 21, 2024 at 3:00pm at the Salmon Arm Golf Course. Refreshment and food to follow with live music. Catering by The Cahoots Kitchen.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kay to Shuswap Community Foundation would be appreciated. The Sholinder Family Fund was established in 2021 after Fay Sholinder passed away and an annual bursary is given every year to a recipient pursuing the Trades or Sports, in his name. We intend to establish a second annual Bursary or Grant in the name of Kay Sholinder to be awarded in Arts and Culture.
