It's with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Kalle ("Kelly") Nikula, who died peacefully in his sleep at home in Revelstoke on Tuesday March 31, 2026, at the age of 84 years.
Born in Alavieska, Finland on September 8, 1941, into a large family, Kalle became a hard worker and provider at a young age. In 1966 after his military service, he married his sweetheart Eeva and they welcomed their son into the family. Later they boarded a plane with only 2 suitcases to begin a new life in Canada. Kalle worked for CP Rail as a heavy-duty mechanic and welder; his territory stretched from Port Coquitlam to the Alberta border. He was truly a "jack-of-all-trades" who could fix anything and he took pride in his work. In 1976 they relocated to Revelstoke to raise their family. Kalle never missed a day of work in 28 years. In 1994 a workplace accident abruptly ended his career.
He loved the outdoors, especially going fishing and hunting. He enjoyed woodworking and always had a project going. He grew beautiful flower gardens, vegetables, berries and fruit trees. Like any good Finn, he built a sauna in the house and a portable one for hunting trips. He was competitive, loyal and generous with his time, always lending a hand to anyone needing help.
Kalle was laid to rest near his brother, sister, other family and friends in Golden Cemetery during a private service on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. He is survived by his wife Eeva of nearly 60 years, his son Jarmo (wife Shouna), daughter Liisa, grandsons Cody, Mackenzie and great-grandson Jari.
Until we meet again.
