Jules Joseph Arnouse “Whipman”
Born to the late Lena Adams and Felix Arnouse on January 1, 1947, his siblings were brothers Louie, Daniel, Thomas and sister Josephine Arnouse.
Many times we sat and talked about his past. Jules had many regrets, but his good times outnumbered them. Jules did attend Residential School as did his brothers and sister. He never like talking about that time in his life. Once he left (ran away) from the residential school, he never returned to school. It was his request for no priest at his service. “That says it all”, those are his words.
Jules lived in Mission, B.C. with the late Ernie Philip and family. He started his dance at the pow wow circuit. “Good times” was his saying with a smile. May 27, 1976 was the day he sobered up, the birth day of his first daughter. He made a choice to never allow his children to see him intoxicated. He would be the change. Jules took care of Angie’s children, Rosalie, Simon and the late Abel. Very proud that they all graduated High School. Julianna was born in 1995 to Angie and Jules, a very proud moment for both. His true love forever. In 2004 Abel passed away, a very sad time for everyone. Abel was diagnosed with MS. Rosalie gave birth to Josie in the year 2000. Jules and Angie raised Josie as their own daughter. Jules was a truly proud Secwepemc man.
Jules was the Whipman for the Skwlax Pow Wow, one of his many contributions to Little Shuswap. He prided himself for a job well done. All in all, Jules did well. His contributions were many.
Thank you for all those who were there for him and his family.
He is now at his forever Pow-Wow
