Joseph Whitfield Lancaster was born in 1933 to Sarah (Sally) Muir and Joseph (Joe) Lancaster, at London Ontario. He was the second youngest of 5 children, with 3 older sisters. A family friend sponsored Joe to attend the prestigious Applebee College in Oakville, where he graduated senior matriculation at 16 years old. He hitchhiked across Canada to Alberta, where his father was project manager on an Edmonton property. Upon realizing there were no family resources to support an education in medicine, Joe started driving truck for Haliburton in the oilpatch. He then spent two years at the University of Alberta studying Business Administration, followed by a 30 year career with Sears. He started out selling appliances at the Park Plaza Simpson Sears in Edmonton, retiring at 55 as the head of distribution for Western Canada in Regina Saskatchewan. Victoria BC became Joe’s home for 25 years, where semi-retirement was as a chauffeur/tour guide which he enjoyed immensely. Customer service was Joe’s forte. Salmon Arm became Joe’s home in 2012 and in his 80s he volunteered at the Mt. Ida Mews, then later became a resident.
Spouse, Father, Grandfather, Uncle Joe enjoyed telling a funny story, or sharing some family news, he was known for his kindness, gentility and wit. The family would like to thank the staff at Shuswap General Hospital and Mt. Ida Mews, with special thanks to Opal who shared his passion for curling. He will be lovingly remembered by family across Canada and around the globe.
Cheers to you Daddio, a life well lived!
