Jorie King Obituary

Jorie Dianne (Marjorie) King, was born in Revelstoke, British Columbia. She was the fifth and youngest child of James (Jim) King Sr. and our beloved mother, Dorothy (Dot) King. She is survived by her sister, Carol (King) Schaafsma. She was predeceased by her sister, Marlene (King) Larson, and her brothers, Terry King and James (Jimmy) King Jr.

Jorie had many nieces and nephews who loved her and will fondly remember her kindness, warm heart and infectious giggle. In Jorie's later years, her niece, Karla King, devoted a great deal of time, love and care to helping her, especially when she needed it most. Her support and dedication brought Jorie comfort and companionship during some of her most difficult years.

Jorie attended school in Vernon and Sicamous, graduating from high school in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. She and Carol played in the Vernon Girls Trumpet Band alongside their future sister-in-law, Lucille (Sturn) King.

Throughout her working life, Jorie held several different positions, including working at City Hall, BC Hydro and as a camp attendant on oil rigs. Jorie eventually found her true calling as a caregiver for people with special needs. She worked in group homes in Langley and Salmon Arm until her retirement. Her compassion, empathy and genuine love for the people she cared for, as well as for her co-workers, was evident throughout her career. That same kindness was also reflected in her deep love for animals, especially her beloved cats and inherited dogs.

Jorie was my closest sibling in age, with only two and a half years between us. I will be forever grateful for the years we shared and the memories we made together. We will all miss you and love you.

Love you Jorie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jorie’s name to your local SPCA.
