John "Morley" New Obituary

Humble and kind—just two of the many qualities that defined Morley, making him deeply loved and fondly remembered by so many. He leaves behind the love of his life, Doreen, with whom he shared 65 remarkable years of marriage. Cherishing his memory are his children: David (Allison), Janice, and Kevin (Patti); his seven grandchildren: Alana, Troy, Jacob, Adam, Ben, Trevor, Emily and their partners; his sisters Charlotte Lancaster and Barb Anderson; and an extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins whose lives were touched by his warmth. Morley was predeceased by his parents Howard and Lottie New and brother-in-laws Lyle Lancaster and Eugene Anderson.

Morley devoted his working life to the railway, beginning with CP Rail in his native Saskatchewan, then continuing with BC Rail after relocating to British Columbia in 1957. He retired in 1986, capping a career built on dedication and hard work.

A true outdoorsman, Morley found joy in hunting, trapping, and fishing. He was a skilled craftsman who poured love and care into every piece he created, none more impressive than the log home he and Doreen built in Prince George—a place where they raised their children and built lasting memories. His love for family was boundless, always offering unwavering support and encouragement for their dreams.

True to his nature, Morley had a goal to enjoy retirement longer than he spent working—and he did just that. With Doreen by his side, they traveled far and wide across Canada, the USA, Mexico, in one of their many RVs and even ventured overseas to explore other parts of the world.

When his travel days came to an end, he found joy in cheering on his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders, a team he held dear since childhood.

Morley took pleasure in the simple beauty just beyond his living room window. The melodic songs of birds, the playful presence of squirrels, and the quiet grace of deer grazing in the fields brought him a deep sense of peace and contentment in his later years.

Even at 94, Morley continued to share stories with those around him, bringing laughter, wonder, and insight. His gentle spirit, sharp wit, and calm demeanour stayed with him until his final breath—leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
