Dad passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of November 6, 2021 at Shuswap Lake Hospital in Salmon Arm, BC. Born November 21, 1929, in Calgary, AB, Jack lived in small towns in Saskatchewan before making the move to Vancouver in the early ‘50s. Here, he met Shirley Wise, married her in 1955 and raised Sandi, Debbie and Steven on Northview Court in Burnaby, BC.
Summers were spent camping in the Okanagan with the ‘Green Bay Gang’, a large group of friends and relatives from all over the West. Winters were for skiing at Whistler. Dad built our first A-frame there with Shirley’s cousins, Ron and Alan Savage in 1965. Shirley, being an only child, was very close to her Savage cousins, Ron, Alan and John. Those were idyllic days, skiing during the day, board games at night, surrounded by cousins, boisterous dogs and heated by a hard working Ben Franklin stove.
Life on Northview Court was a suburban adventure, added to by Jack’s creativity. We were the only kids to have a Dad that brought home a soft ice cream machine for the neighborhood kids to enjoy! After working for Canada Dry, Jack owned several food equipment businesses over the years.
He and Shirley built their 3rd home in Whistler and Dad spent his last 7 years before retirement working at Blackcomb Mountain. He often spoke about skiing down to the valley at day’s end after the lifts had closed. Shirley passed away in 1995.
Jack’s final years were spent in White Rock, BC and Salmon Arm, BC. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Vancouver.
