John Rasmussen

We are heart-broken to announce the passing of John Rasmussen on January 17, 2025 in Salmon Arm, BC.

John was born in Mou, Denmark on October 24, 1943. In 1956, John immigrated, along with his parents and siblings, to Canoe, BC. After graduating from high school, John attended BCIT and then accepted a job with BC Tel as an engineering technician. In 1967 he married Nellie de Dood and moved to Prince George, returning to Salmon Arm in 1976. John continued working for BC Tel while building a house for his family on his parents’ property. In 1984, tragedy struck when John was involved in a vehicle accident that took the life of his 3 youngest children.

In 1999, after 31 years with BC Tel, John took early retirement. He spent many hours in his garden and his woodworking shop, at the hockey arena with Andrew and helping to build a house for Kathryn and Chris. He also volunteered many hours with the Interior Health Lifeline Program and was a volunteer with the Salmon Arm Jazz Club.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nellie, his daughter, Kathryn Weicker (Chris) of Salmon Arm and his son, Andrew, of Toronto, his brother Kaj (Kathy) of 108 Mile and his sister Hanne Fair (Patrick) of Victoria. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Peter, Timothy, Annamarie, Kirsten and Justin of Salmon Arm and Katrina of Victoria, 2 great grandchildren, Christian and Gabriel and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Karen and Karl Rasmussen, his children, Angela, Jennifer and Jeffrey.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for John on Tuesday, January 28 at 10:30am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 60 - 1st Street SE. Burial to follow concluding with a luncheon in the church hall.
