John Markstrom Obituary

John Albert Markstrom 74, passed away Saturday October 2, 2021 in Revelstoke after a mighty battle with cancer. John was a shining light in this sometimes dark world and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.

John was born in Revelstoke in 1947 to Roy and Kay Markstrom. He started life in Sidmouth, Haney and Arrowhead until the family settled in Revelstoke in 1956. John remained in Revelstoke Until the End, living his best life in God's Paradise.

John leaves behind his loving wife Denice; stepdaughter Tammie (Jim) Skull and 2 step grandchildren Waylon and Texas. He was the proud papa to 3 great-grandchildren Avery, Xavier and Sierra. John also leaves behind his loving siblings Bruce (Sandy), Bill (Kathy), David  (Brenda) and Mary Kay (Michael) Paschko of Australia. He will be forever remembered and loved by eight nieces and nephews along with seven great-nieces. He will surely be missed by the abundance of friends, especially those he called family including his church family. John is once again reunited with his nurturing father Roy, devoted mother Kay and adoring sister Judy Lauzon.

John's love for the outdoors is only surpassed by the love he had for his family. John was an avid fisherman and Hunter, going out regularly with the many friends he had. He was forever dropping off a freshly caught fish, a bucket of berries or a load of cut firewood as someone could use it more than him. John remained devoted at capturing moments and memories with his camera to share with his family and friends throughout his life. He always said you could never have enough pictures of the mighty Mt. Begbie. John will be fondly remembered as a local Cornerstone for his morning walks visiting along the way then sitting at Airport Way waving to all. John enjoyed collecting several items including pictures he had taken that were proudly displayed in frames, fishing tackle stored everywhere and ice cream. He never refused a flavour ever.

The Markstrom family cannot express in words their thanks to Dr.  Kate McCarroll, the entire staff of Queen Victoria Hospital and all the other healthcare professionals that provided John with care during his battle with cancer. A huge heartfelt thank you to all our friends, family, Neighbors and church for their personal support, kindness and a love during John's life. A private family service will be held on Saturday October 9th, 2021.
