John Agar Obituary

John Louis Agar passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 31, 2023, at the age of 95, in his long-time home of Salmon Arm, BC, where he has lived since 1959. John’s medical issues in recent years showed his courage and positive attitude in facing life’s challenges with a smile. Despite failing eyesight, poor hearing and the pains that come with old age, John stayed positive until the end.

One of 11 children, John was born in Ravenscrag, Saskatchewan and grew up with a love for farming and horses that stayed with him his entire life.  For many years he bred, raised, and trained Tennessee Walking horses on his farm in Silver Creek.  John also worked as a custodian for School District 83 for over 20 years and was a friend to many students and staff in that time.

John married his first wife Maude in Drake Saskatchewan in 1954 and raised two sons, Kelly and Tim, with her.  When Maude passed away unexpectedly in 1989, John met and married Myrtle Murray who also passed away too young in 2002.  For the last 18 years John was the loving husband and partner to Phyllis Lepine. Together they have traveled and had many adventures.

John will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his love of animals, playing cards, dancing - even with a broken knee, and never letting the truth get in the way of a really good story.
