Joe Murin Obituary

Joe Murin passed away on September 16, 2022, in Salmon Arm, BC in the company of his daughter. He was born November 6, 1932, to parents Joseph and Mariya Murin who had immigrated to Canada from Krupina, Czechoslovakia to purchase a farm. Joe grew up on farms in Tilley and Okotoks, Alberta.

Joe attended SAIT in Calgary to study mechanics, but farming drew him back. He began farming on his own in Aldersyde, Alberta with his wife Claire Smith of Black Diamond, Alberta where they had two children, Joy and Scot. They then purchased a farm in Pincher Creek, Alberta where they would farm for 32 years, raise their children, and welcome grandchildren. While farming kept Joe very busy he always found time to enjoy curling in winter, camping and golfing in summer and spent countless hours with his grandchildren attending their activities, camping and building things on the farm. After retiring in 1994 he and Claire spent the winters in California golfing and summers camping with family. Joe was known for his jovial nature and humorous spirit as well as the ability to make a friend anywhere.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, his wife Claire, his sister Julie (Magella), and his brother and farming partner Paul Murin.

He is survived by his daughter Joy (Robert) Neish, grandchildren Pat Neish, Alicia Neish (Geoff) and his son Scot Murin (Colleen) and grandchild Chris McKerrell (Drew).

An internment service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Pincher Creek, AB.

Please consider donating to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
