It is with great sadness that the Adair girls share the news of Joan Adair’s passing on August 28th, 2025. Joan was the only child born to Dawson & Elvie (nee MacLennan) Lumsden in Vancouver. Joan and her mother lost Dawson to a logging accident in 1949 & Joan lost Elvie in 1981. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, James, in January 2019.
Joan and Jim arrived in Salmon Arm shortly after their marriage in 1957. In 1962, they purchased a little old house on 10 acres at the corner of Hillcrest and Rifle Range Road (20th & 20th SE) where they raised their 2 daughters. In 1976 the family moved about 500’ from the old house into a log house that Jim built for Joan. Later, in 2011, they had a third house built on the property where they resided until January 2013 when they moved downtown to Piccadilly Terrace. In March of 2016 they moved to Penticton’s Regency.
In addition to a love of camping throughout the province with family and friends, Joan was an accomplished seamstress, wine maker, baker and a generous hostess. Her giving spirit continued to thrive through the sharing of home baked cookies, pies, buns and bread with those lucky enough to know her at the Regency.
Joan passed away at her home in Penticton held tight in the loving embrace of her family and friends. Joan is survived by her daughters, Pauline (Christopher) Walker and Linda (Michael) Schulz, her grandsons Terence and Joshua Wiege and great grandchildren Jaden, Xzander, Logan, Sadie, Leonidas, Kimberly and Spartacus.
The family is hosting a celebration of life for both Joan and Jim together on September 11th at Bowers Funeral Home in Salmon Arm at 1:00 pm.
