Jean Jamieson Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the recent passing of Jean Jamieson at the age of 97, the sadness is tempered with the satisfaction of knowing she had a long life that was well lived.

Jean was born in Yorkton Saskatchewan to Balkan immigrant parents and experienced the hardship of the depression years and World War 2. After graduating from high school, her first career job was as a color artist for a photographic studio in Saskatoon where she met her future husband, William Davies. Photography was a hobby that she practiced for the rest of her life.

Jean and William were married in Vernon BC, and they moved to Calgary where sons Bill and Tom were born. The couple returned to Vernon where William changed careers and sold appliances for Mac & Mac in Vernon. In Vernon, son Cliff was born. From there the couple moved to Salmon Arm where sons Gordon, David and Lorne were born. William passed away prematurely leaving her with 6 sons to raise.

Jean was resilient and raised the boys by being a seamstress. Many of the young ladies of the community experienced the joy of a wedding, or graduation dress tailor made by Jean that would fit like a glove.

As the demands of family life receded, she discovered a new soul mate in Roland Jamieson. They spent their retirement years together exploring their interests; reading, local history, supporting the Lions Club, travelling and enjoying the companionship of friends, and family.

Jean was a formidable scrabble opponent for Roland. Their house in Canoe, had a revolving door and the coffee, stories and home baked goodies were endless.

Jean took great pride in her yard and garden, and enjoyed building rock walls, stairs and even rock murals. She took up painting rocks when Roland experienced a stroke, and gave them as cherished gifts to visitors. After Rolland passed it left a huge hole in her life that she chose to fill it by writing short stories that were published in a senior’s paper based in Saskatchewan.

She was predeceased by her son Bill, and leaves 5 sons, 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren to carry on her legacy.

The family expresses it’s gratitude for the wonderful care that Jean received from the health care professionals and staff at Picadilly Care Centre in Salmon in her final years.

Respecting Jeans wishes there will be no formal service.
