It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo) Albert Nickles, of Salmon Arm. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Prince George, BC.
Jim was born on September 9, 1964 to Ilona and Henry Nickles in Montreal, Quebec. Jim graduated from Port Moody Senior Secondary in 1982. He started his 30 year firefighting career in 1988 with the UEL Fire Department, and Vancouver Fire Department. His last years were spent as Assistant Chief Fire Prevention with the Salmon Arm Fire Department retiring in 2018. He went on to run and own Shuswap Total Fitness, fulfilling a lifelong dream. The gym allowed him to share his passion for fitness, and health with others.
Jim found great joy in spending time with his children watching them play sports, driving them around, talking, cherishing every moment as they grew into adults. He loved spending time with friends and family, playing games, camping, fishing and boating adventures. Jim’s life was filled with unforgettable experiences shared with his wife, Christine—whether they were exploring the Okanagan’s wineries, attending concerts, relaxing on the beaches of Mexico, or simply drifting together on the lake.
Jim was a man who brought laughter, joy, and warmth into the lives of everyone he met. His heart was as big as his sense of humor, and he was always ready with a smile to lift others up. Known for his loyalty and positivity, Jim was a friend to many. He was a great man who made a difference in the lives of many who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Jim’s legacy will live on through Lucas, Holly, and Marcus who were his pride and joy.
Jim was predeceased by his father Henry, mother Ilona, and step-father Don. He is survived by his wife Christine, son Lucas (Jayme), daughter Holly (Marcus), son Marcus, sister Gloria (Guy), step-sister Amber (John), sister-in-laws Terry (Brett) and Debbie (Rob) and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Celebration will be held at the SASCU Recreation Centre on Friday November 22, 2024 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SA SPCA or Shuswap Lake General Hospital.
Rest in peace Jimmy, you were loved, and you will be in our hearts forever.
