The family of Irene Lamond is sad to announce her passing at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Friday, August 29, 2025. She had been struggling with respiratory and cardiac issues and passed away peacefully surrounded by all of her family.
Irene Charlotte Peterson was born in Salmon Arm on June 28, 1950, the second daughter of Floyd and Betty Peterson. She completed high school at the local senior high and spent the summer visiting her older sister and her husband in Haida Gwaii. There she met Charlie Cowpar and they married in December 1968. They had two sons, Jason and Jeremy. The marriage ended in divorce a few years later. July 10, 1976, Irene married Don Lamond and had a daughter, Cherene. She and Don moved several times to communities in BC and AB.
They divorced in 1991, and Don passed away October 24, 2004.
Irene raised her three children in Salmon Arm doing bookkeeping for private clients. She loved music and gardening and did oil painting for several years. She had many beloved pets over the years. She was always willing to help her children and their friends through difficult times. She loved all her family with a big heart, whether they lived near or far away.
Irene was predeceased by her parents and her sister Ellen Porteous. She is survived by her sons Jason Cowpar and Jeremy Cowpar of Salmon Arm, daughter Cherene Lamond-Colby (Chris) of Blackfalds, AB, Grandchildren Isaiah, Skylar and Priea Houle, Sequoia and Shyne Cowpar, Jaida Lamond-Colby (Michael) and Fayth Colby, sisters Janet (John) Hanna and Norma (Bill) Harisch, numerous nieces, nephews and their families. She is also mourned by her lifelong friend Connie Calver of Sicamous.
A gathering of remembrance and celebration of life will be held on September 27th, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at the St. Andrews Church located at 1981 9th Ave NE. A short tea will take place at the home of Norma and Bill Harisch.
