Irene Margaret Chmilar

Irene was born in Windsor, Ontario on September 27, 1930 and passed January 11, 2023 at Hillside Village in Salmon Arm, BC.  She is predeceased by her parents Casimira and Jon Wasowicz; sister, Norma Karras and loving husband, Alex.

Remembered by sons Richard (Lorri) and Robert (Peggy); grandchildren, Michael (Natalie), Andrew (Samantha), Stephen, Kelsey (Yanne), Monica and Lee; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Jon, Sophie and a special bond with her niece, Karen.

Alex and Irene were always a team whether working or raising a family. Their journey took them to Pouce Coupe and the Hart Hotel, on to Courtenay and the Sleepy Hollow Motel and finally to Sicamous and Brothers Pub. Sicamous became their home for over 40 years.

Their legacy of a tight family bond lives on with Christmas traditions, strong work ethic, unconditional love and Irene’s recipes. She was an extraordinary cook, bookkeeper, bartender and loved playing cards with friends.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Good Samaritan Hillside Village in Salmon Arm for all their exceptional care and comfort during her stay.
