It is with great sadness that the family of Glen Morris Benney, aged 91, announces his passing on September 8th, 2023. Glen passed away at the Golden District Hospital with his children by his side.
On May 31st, 1932, Glen was born in Creston, BC, to Harry and Grace Benney. He was the eldest of his sister, Evelyn, and himself. As he grew up, Glen spent much of his time helping with the family packhorse business. His dedicated work ethic continued as he began working for the town of Creston and driving logging trucks. It wasn't long after when Glen met Marlene Kepke, who was staying with family. She was working as a waitress when he first laid eyes on her. However, she returned to Alberta at summer's end, and he followed shortly after. Glen continued working for trucking companies and oil wells during their time in Alberta. They soon married in 1952.
After 14 years of marriage, having lived in many oil towns, they resided in Edmonton. Glen was frequently away while driving trucks. Marlene then decided she wanted children. Glen and Marlene soon adopted Blaine and Lynette.
Wanting to be closer to Marlene's family as they raised children of their own, they moved to Golden, BC. Glen continued supporting his family as a truck driver for Reo River Logging and then Baltakis Logging. In 1987, he concluded his career as a truck driver with the Department of Highways.
Glen chose to spend his free time partaking in outdoors and craftsmen-type hobbies. He enjoyed activities ranging from fishing, camping, hunting, and berry picking to working on building projects with metal and wood. However, his favourite way to spend time was with Marlene, family, and friends. In 2016, after 64 years of marriage, the love of his life, Marlene, passed away.
Glen will forever be loved and remembered by his son Blaine, daughter Lynette (Scott, his grandchildren, Daric (Tori), Jared (Bianca), Dylan, Hayley, Regan (Cassidy) and Sierra, great-grandchildren, Georgia and Maisyn, as well as all extended family and friends.
We will miss you Dad, Grandpa, and G.G.
The family would like to thank the devoted nurses, doctors, and everyone involved with Glen's exceptional care during his time at the hospital.
'There will be no service at Glen's request.
