Glen Derksen Obituary

Glen Derksen passed away in palliative care at Golden Hospital on
January 3, 2024.

Glen was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 14, 1956 to
Allan and Carol Derksen. He was the fourth of seven children.

After growing up in Saskatoon and graduating from E.D. Feehan
Catholic High School, Glen worked at S.G.I.O., which is where he met
Karens brother, Ken. Glen then started working as a cement finisher,
which took him all over Saskatchewan and Alberta.

In 1978, he went to the Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw
to become an electrician. It was around this time he started dating
Karen Goa. In 1984, Glen and Karen got married and decided to move
to Tisdale, Saskatchewan. There he worked as an electrician before
starting Laser Electronics, a satellite installation company, after learning
the trade from John Davis.

In 1989, Glen, Karen and their children, Kyle and Ryan moved to
Golden B.C. Upon arriving in Golden, Glen got a job in Forestry's Initial
Attack fire crew and started volunteering with The Golden Fire
Department. He moved into Forestry's engineering department and
worked in the bush with Gordon Larson. When Forestry downsized,
Glen started his own company, D.H. Restoration. From there, he went
to work at L.P. Glen retired at age 55. After a year, he went back to
work driving for Hallcon and Mount 7 taxi. He retired at age 60.

Glen loved camping, golfing, fishing, travelling and riding his e-
bike. Glen put around 2000 km on his e-bike, exploring the different rail
trails in B.C. Karen shared his love of travelling and they had some
great adventures. Besides the trips to Mexico, Cuba, Dominican
Republic and the States, the most memorable ones were the two trips
to Europe and New Zealand.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen, his children Kyle and
Ryan (Zuzana) and grandchildren, Benjamin and Sara. He is also
survived by his brothers and sisters; Keith (Norma) Derksen, Joanell
(Leagh) Nagie, Randy (Chris) Derksen, Colette (Bob) Kozurok, Murray
(Michele) Derksen and Kathy (Steve) Pizio; as well as many nieces,
nephews and other relatives. Glen is predeceased by his parents, Allan
and Carol Derksen and mother-in-law, Selma Goa.

A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
