Franklin Donald Tanner was born on August 14, 1951, in Winnipeg, MB where he spent his formative years. His work eventually took him to Calgary, AB where he built a successful career as a sales manager for Westland Ltd, specializing in lawn and garden supplies. Frank was a natural-born salesman and was passionate about his work. He loved visiting clients, making deals and formed many lasting friendships as a result.
For 34 years, Frank was devoted to his wife and best friend, Lynn. Together, they fully embraced life, especially their retirement years in Revelstoke, BC, making the most of summertime activities. Such as golfing, biking, hiking, boating with friends on Shuswap Lake, road trips, visits with family and friends and of course, Frank’s personal favourite - baseball. He played many seasons with the Townley Tigers and Mainliners slo-pitch teams, where he created not only enduring friendships, but a family.
When winter arrived, Frank and Lynn would head to Sun Lakes, Arizona. There, Frank continued his love for softball, competing in senior leagues and playing on tournament teams. His skills on the field brought many victories, including a championship ring at the Winter Worlds in Phoenix, AZ. Frank was known for his strong pitching, solid batting, and a powerful arm, excelling at double plays and even a triple play at rover in his last season.
Frank and Lynn shared a passion for travel, embarking on adventures to destinations such as Costa Rica, Belize, Thailand, Cuba and Mexico. They enjoyed sailing trips on the west coast and cruises through Europe, Alaska, and the South Pacific. Frank was also an avid card player, especially fond of cribbage and poker, and celebrated some big money wins at Pai Gow.
Despite all his successes, Frank was faced with the challenge of pulmonary fibrosis. True to his practical nature, he accepted his diagnosis with courage, continuing as best he could to enjoy his favourite activities and the company of those he loved until he could do no more. Frank passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2025 with Lynn by his side. “I’ve had a wonderful life” He said. He requested no funeral, simply hoping that people would think of him from time to time. So in his memory, let’s toast to the good times and cheer on his Blue Jays.
