Fernando “Fred” D’Ippolito of Golden, BC, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the age of 76 years.
Fred was born in 1949 in Serra Pedace, Italy, and raised in nearby Spezzano Piccolo. At the age of twelve, he immigrated to Canada with his family, settling in Revelstoke, BC. A hardworking and determined young man, Fred began his lifelong career with Canadian Pacific Railway at the age of sixteen, where he worked for approximately 35 years as a mechanic, supervisor, and instructor.
In 1976, Fred married Eva, and together, they raised two sons, Michael and Robert. In 1986, he transferred to Golden, BC, where he continued his career and built strong ties within the community. Following his divorce, Fred devoted himself to raising his two boys as a single father. Michael and Robert were his greatest accomplishments, and being a father was a role he carried with strength, discipline, and quiet pride.
Fred was an active member of his communities in both Revelstoke and Golden. In his younger years, he was an avid five-pin bowler, achieving multiple 400+ games. He later enjoyed playing softball, where he was known as a strong and reliable pitcher. In Revelstoke, he also volunteered for the local food bank and served as president of the Italian Canadian Club, helping build the community through events and supporting local families.
In retirement, Fred embraced a simple and meaningful life. He enjoyed gardening – earning the nickname “Tomato Fred” – cutting firewood, picking mushrooms, and spending time with friends over coffee. He had a passion for his red Corvette, which he proudly showcased at local car shows.
Fred’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially his five grandchildren: Julia, Daniel, Claudia, Nellie, and Farren. They were the center of his world in his later years.
Fred will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his dedication to family, and his steady presence in the lives of those who knew him.
He never chased glamour.
He never needed spotlight.
He simply showed up – every day –
For the people who mattered.
And that is a life well lived.
Fred is survived by his two sons, Michael (Maria) and Robert (Jesse); and grandchildren, Julia, Daniel, Claudia, Nellie, and Farren; sisters, Antonietta Federico (Luigi) and Ines Timperio; brother, Raimondo D’Ippolito (Anna); and sister-in-law, Elvira D’Ippolito; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Battista and Concetta D’Ippolito; his brother, Romualdo D’Ippolito; twin sister, Maria D’Ippolito; and brother-in-law, Vincenzo Timperio.
