Esther Hnatiw Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Esther Anne Hnatiw, on August 13, 2026, at Hillside Village. She passed surrounded by Love, with Family by her side.

Esther was born on January 23, 1937, in Cudworth, Saskatchewan, to William and Dora (Hrycuik) Boychuk.

Esther was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ronald Hnatiw; her grandson Quintin; her parents, William and Dora (Hrycuik) Boychuk; her brothers John Boychuk and Mike Boychuk; and her sisters Janet Fournier, Ann Kachur, and Stella Richardson.

Esther will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Debbie and husband Kevin; her sons Rob and Alanna, Ken and Irene, and Tim; her grandchildren Lakoda, Nat, and Walker; her twin sister Ruth; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Esther was very active with the Sylvan Lake seniors and treasured the friendship she shared with her good friend Mike Stuffco. On February 28, 2022, she moved to British Columbia and made her new home at Orchard Valley Retirement Residence in Vernon. On July 25, 2025, she moved to Hillside Village, where she resided until her peaceful passing.

Esther lived an active life and loved a good game of crib. She proudly wore the medal she and her twin sister Ruth won together at the Alberta 55 Plus Winter Games. She enjoyed long drives, loved the mountains, and embraced her new home in Vernon.

Above all else, Esther cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Family was Everything to her, and the Love she had for them will remain in their Hearts Forever.

Mom and Dad are Together, Dancing once again.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Service in Salmon Arm, with lunch and a time of fellowship to follow. The service will be livestreamed, with viewing details available on Esther’s memorial page through the Bowers Funeral Service website.

A private family interment will take place in the spring of 2027, when Esther and Ronald will be laid to rest together.
