Erika Motherwell

It is with great sadness that the family of Erika Motherwell announces her passing on October 13, 2024. Born in Poland on July 31, 1941, Erika immigrated with her family to Gem, Alberta in 1950. They later moved to Calgary where Erika raised her 3 children before moving to Salmon Arm in 1996. While in Calgary, Erika worked for many years in the Human Resources department for Ashland Oil which later became Kaiser Resources. In late 1990 she took an early retirement from Kaiser Resources and earned her license as a Travel Agent.

In 1996 Erika relocated to Salmon Arm with her husband, Bruce, she was employed with Unicorn Travel (now Marlin Travel) as a Travel Agent until 2012 when she retired. Erika loved to travel and during her years with Unicorn she visited many countries including Germany, France, Poland, Australia, Mexico, Cuba, Vietnam & China to name a few. Her favorite place was Italy.

After her retirement, Erika spent her time on the golf course. Golf was her passion, and she was a member of the Salmon Arm Golf Club. She was also an avid skier, and you could find her enjoying the trails at Larch Hills during the winter months. If she wasn't on the golf course or up at Larch Hills, you could find her playing bridge. Erika was also very active in her community volunteering her time at the Shuswap Hospice Society and the Shuswap Film Society. She had many friends and will be dearly missed.

Erika is survived by her son Tony (Shelly), her daughters Coreen (Dean) and Tracy (Rocky) , her sisters Erna and Alma (Jim), 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other extended family. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bruce, her parents, Pauline and Arthur, her sister Paula, her brothers, Adolf and Helmut and her brother-in-law Gus.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital and at Bastion Place for their care and compassion.

A private family gathering to honor Erika will be held in Calgary with a celebration of life to follow in Salmon Arm in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Shuswap Hospice Society at www.shuswapfoundation.ca
