The family of Erik Carl Olson is sad to announce his passing in Hillside Village Salmon Arm on Nov. 2/24
Erik was predeceased by his mother Ina, father Holger, step-father Walter and brother Bob. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anne, daughter Anita (Roger), son Curtis (Laurelle), grandchildren Kailen (Andrew), Jordan (Leah), Evan (Zoe), Libby (Sydney), Andrew and great granddaughters Maiya and Clea.
Erik was born in Gronlid Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm. He left to work on the power lines in Ontario when he was 17 and at 18 he went to Prince George. During a visit back to Saskatchewan, he reconnected with a schoolmate, Anne Soroka, They corresponded while she was working as a teacher in Smeaton and after she moved to Vancouver. They were married in 1957 and moved to Prince George. In 1960, they moved to their acreage in Canoe where they lived until 2017. After selling the farm, they bought a townhouse in Salmon Arm.
Erik spent his career in the logging industry. He was known as a hard-working, productive and efficient logger. He was also known for his generosity and helpfulness. Friends and family could count on him to lend a helping hand, clear dangerous trees and deliver cords of wood. He also spent many years volunteering at the Churches Thrift shop .He worked hard around his farm and his "top property". He always wanted his kids to go to university and he was so proud that they, and all his grandchildren accomplished this goal.
Erik and Anne spent many winters in Arizona starting in 2009. In 2011 they purchased a small bungalow in Sun City where they enjoyed the sunshine and company of good friends. He was last there in March 2023 due to declining health.
The family wishes to thank all the health care providers at SLH, Community Care/Copper Island Care and Hillside Village. Dad was able to stay in his home until early October, spending the last few weeks of his life in Hillside Village. We appreciate the family and friends who supported Mom and Dad in is his later years, especially Gloria and Marshall Pesch, Mavis and Larry Rasmuson and Bert and Pat Larmand.
Interment will take place in the spring. As per his wishes, no service will be held.
