Edward "Ed" Blysak Obituary

It is with sadness we announce that Edward Joseph Blysak passed away. Ed or (Eddie) was born to Angelina (Misoto) Blysak and Joseph Blysak in his current home on October 8th, 1930. Edward was the 9th child of Joseph and the second of Angelina. Two of Joseph’s children had died as infants. Their neighbour and good friend Mrs. Yurik was the midwife when he was born. Both families were friends in the same small-town Biely Potok in Slovakia before they immigrated to Canada.

Ed was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann Blysak (Brown) for 52 years. Ed was predeceased by all his family, father Joseph and mother Angelina, brothers Lewis, Stephen, Cyril and Alex and sisters Pauline, Annie and Sophie (Cummings). Predeceased also by his nephew Clarke Blysak (May), nieces Sharon and Irene (Mottley). Ed is survived by great, and great great, and great great great nieces and nephews. He is also uncle to Barbara Ann’s nieces and nephew’s, as well brother in law to her sister Margaret Jane (Norm) Warren and bother Jim Brown. Ed is remembered by many friends near and far.

Ed lived a full and busy happy life having had many different occupations. He began his life working for the CPR on the track and then as a fireman on the steam engines. He was a logger, heavy equipment operator, farmhand, power house diesel operator and licenced pressure welder. Ed enjoyed learning new things and had a wonderful memory of past times and experiences. Although his home was always Golden, he worked in numerous places in BC, as well as farming in Alberta.

Even as a young child Ed loved to fish and would be found at his favourite fishing holes. Ed also had a love of music and the accordion His first accordion he bought from Eaton’s catalogue and learned to play on his own. When attending BCIT in Vancouver he was pleased to take lessons. He attended many accordion celebrations in Canada and the USA, keeping in touch with these contacts all these years. Ed also took flying lessons with The Calgary Flying School and enjoyed the years he spent flying his Cessna 172, comradery with the other pilots and those he took flying.

Ed and Barbara enjoyed skiing and square dancing for many years until Ed was no longer able to because of his back injuries. They also travelled the world for many years visiting over 40 countries and enriching their lives with all their memories and new friends.

Being able to continue to live in his home all his life has made it possible for Ed to continue to garden and work in his shop. One of his favourite places to be was stoking his stove in his shop.

Ed’s life will be celebrated at St. Andrew’s United Church & Centre for Peace at 1:30 pm March 19th, 2026 Golden BC with Rev. Brent Woodard and Rev. Judith Hardcastle officiating.
