Edith Schroeder Obituary

Edith Marie McElheran Schroeder entered her heavenly home on Dec. 4th, 2025, passing away peacefully in her sleep in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 91 years. Edith was born in Edmonton on January 24, 1934 and raised in Three Hills, Alberta. Predeceased in 2004 by Peter Schroeder, her loving husband of 44 years, she is lovingly remembered by her daughters and sons-in-law: Ann Smith (Robert) and Lisa Dressel (Ted); and by her grandchildren: Jason Smith (Tanya), Adam Smith, Christen Dressel, and James Dressel (Tarryn). She also leaves behind her sister, Pearl McElheran. She was adopted by Mabel and John McElheran in 1935 and joined a large family on a small farm in Three Hills, Alberta.

After high school, Edith attended Prairie Bible Institute and then was accepted into Calgary General Hospital's Nursing School and graduated with her RN designation in 1959. She remained in touch with many cherished classmates of this Nursing sisterhood and was so pleased to be able to attend their final Class Reunion, held in Calgary in 2024.

Edith married Peter-Hermann Schroeder in September of 1959.

She worked continuously in her chosen Nursing vocation from 1959 to 1993, Calgary General Hospital, Calgary Private Duty Registry, Foothills Hospital, Dr. Vernon Fanning Center, Drumheller Hospital, Provost Hospital and retired from the University of Calgary Medical Clinic, as Nursing Service Coordinator.

Edith had many friends and loved to travel. She moved to Salmon Arm in 2019.

The family would like to thank and express gratitude to Lakeside Manor, Dr. E. Bonthuys and the Maple Tree Clinic staff, Shuswap Lake Hospital, BC Ambulance, Salmon Arm Pharmasave, Broadview Church among many others. Mom was heartened by the many kindnesses of the community and enjoyed her last years by beautiful Shuswap Lake.

Arrangements in care of Bowers Funeral Service and Crematorium, Salmon Arm. A private family gathering will be held in 2026.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations would be graciously accepted for the Shuswap Lake General Hospital Foundation, who raise funds to improve patient health care for the Shuswap area.  www.shuswaphospitalfoundation.org
