Dorothy Margaret Hyland

Dorothy Hyland born September 8, 1935 in Pincher Creek, Alberta passed away March 15, 2026 in Calgary Alberta.
Dorothy Hyland was truly one in a million. It’s hard to capture her life and impact in just a few words. Our grandmother was fun, adventurous, and generous beyond measure. Her presence could fill any room with warmth, laughter, and wit.
As the eldest of seven, she carried her sense of responsibility with pride, always looking after those around her. She never tired of loving her family, and her love for the Lord was undeniable. She opened her home to everyone, always ready with a seat at her table.
She was endlessly proud to be the daughter of a farmer and the wife of a cowboy. She had a gift for bringing people together, wrangling any crowd into action, and somehow keeping at least five people busy in order to get things done her way.
She was fearless, kind, and always up for an adventure, pedal to the metal. And “hold your horses,” because seatbelts were never optional.
Gran could sell just about anything, from vacuum cleaners to lingerie, and everything in between. She never shied away from expressing herself, whether through her words or her
wardrobe. Who could forget her bold choices in colour, or as our grandfather lovingly called it, chartreuse… “shit-reuse.”
She was caring and compassionate, yet never without a cheeky comeback or a sly giggle.
Gran shared her spark freely, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and stories that will be told again and again. She taught us not only through her words, but through the way she lived: with an open heart and an open home.

A funeral service will be held on March 22, 2026 at Bowers Funeral Chapel beginning at 11:00a.m with a reception to follow.
